Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about steelhead fishing in Ohio and Pennsylvania? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

When is the best time to fish for steelhead?

Steelhead season typically begins in September and continues through April. Fishing opportunities vary throughout the season based on weather, water levels, and fish movement. Captain Kurt will help you select the best dates based on current conditions.

Do I need fly fishing experience?

No. We welcome both beginner and experienced anglers. Instruction is available throughout the trip and all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

What equipment should I bring?

If you have your own fly fishing equipment, feel free to bring it. If not, we can provide rods and flies. We recommend bringing weather-appropriate clothing, rain gear, sunglasses, and breathable waders with boots.

Are waders available for rent?

Yes. Wader and boot rentals are available for $50 per day.

How many anglers are assigned to each guide?

Day trips are limited to 1-2 anglers per guide to ensure a personalized experience and maximize fishing opportunities.

What happens if water conditions are poor?

Our guides monitor water conditions daily and select the best available fishing locations. If conditions prevent safe fishing, Captain Kurt will discuss rescheduling options.

What are the benefits of private water access?

Private water sections receive less fishing pressure, provide more room to fish, and often offer a more enjoyable overall experience. Several private water opportunities are available on Conneaut Creek, Elk Creek, and Crooked Creek.

How do I reserve my dates?

A deposit of 50% per reservation is required.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel my reservation?

Yes, if you cancel your reservation more than 91 days before your scheduled arrival, we will issue a full refund, provided there is adequate time to fill your reservation.

Cancellations made 90 days or less before your arrival are not eligible for a refund, credit, or rescheduling. However, when possible, we will make every reasonable effort to help you reschedule your trip within the same fall or spring steelhead fishing season.

Because unexpected events can occur, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance. A comprehensive travel insurance policy may provide coverage for cancellations due to illness, injury, severe weather, airline disruptions, military or jury duty, loss of employment, natural disasters, financial insolvency, and other covered events.

Please note that coverage varies by policy. Most travel insurance plans do not cover cancellations resulting from known or foreseeable events, epidemics, fear of travel, weddings, funerals, or business meetings. We encourage guests to review their policy carefully before purchasing.
